Mangere Refugee Resettlement Centre

Mangere Refugee Resettlement Centre

Brief: MRRC is the central processing and assessment location for all refugees who arrive in NZ. A new Centre designed to play a crucial role in helping refugees during their six week stay at the facility adapt to a new life in New Zealand. An Admin building - hosting a communal dining facility, consulting rooms for Govt. agencies providing migrant and refugee support services, learning spaces, and recreation facilities - is the centre of site activity. Accommodation is provided in 8, two story standalone buildings, each with 4 separate apartments, catering for the immigrant families.
Heatwave:

Heatwave was commissioned to Design and Build the HVAC services for all buildings on the site, through a collaborative design process with constructor, architect, client, and project manager.

Sustainable design was the over-riding criteria with Heatwave developing heat recovery ventilation systems from the exhaust air, vrf heat recovery air conditioning, designing and constructing custom kitchen hoods for a low velocity optimised kitchen exhaust system, electrical for mechanical, and control systems.

Heatwave has completed successive expansions since opening in late 2016.
